When the Aquilaria tree is afflicted by disease, it naturally accumulates resin to “bandage” the wound. This is also its inherent self-defense mechanism against diseases, resulting in the creation of agarwood. However, not all Aquilaria trees can produce agarwood. Only those that are diseased, exposed to suitable natural climate conditions, and possess unique resistance capabilities can develop agarwood in the core of their trunks. Due to the challenging conditions for agarwood formation, it becomes scarce and commands a high price.
